Mattapoisett Lions Club - Two $2,500 Scholarships

The Mattapoisett Lions Club announces that it will continue its annual scholarship award program for graduating high school students who are residents of Mattapoisett, Marion or Rochester.  This year there will be two awards, each in the amount of $2,500.00. 

The funds for this award are raised through charitable events run by the Mattapoisett Lions Club throughout the year, including Harbor Days an annual festival held in Shipyard Park every July and attended by up to 10,000 people.

To qualify, a graduating high school student enrolled in their first year of a recognized college or university, must be a resident of the Tri-Town area and have demonstrated service to the community. Special consideration will be given to those looking towards a career in an eye sight related field.  Lions also encouraged to participate in the Lion’s Youth Speech Contest sponsored every year in the fall by the Mattapoisett Lion’s Club and open to all high school students in the Tri-Town area.

Scholarship Specifications 

  • Two $2,500 scholarships will be awarded
  • All awards will be paid to the recipient’s academic institution on their behalf by September 1, 2017.


  • No evidence of financial need is required
  • Must be a grade 12 student residing in Mattapoisett, Marion or Rochester
  • Must have three letters of recommendation (Not from relatives)

Applicants must provide:

  • Examples of public service or volunteer work
  • Completed application form
  • Official transcript from high school
  • Evidence of acceptance from your college of choice
  • Letter explaining career goals and future plans in 300 words or less
